Obituary of Douglas George Stewart
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Douglas Stewart, loving husband to the late Florence Stewart, announces his passing which occurred on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on September 2, 1928, he was a son to the late George and Mary (Hachey) Stewart. Doug owned and managed Expert Delivery for 34 years, making out of city deliveries well into his 80’s. He loved to drive, whether for work or pleasure. In his spare time, Doug enjoyed playing and coaching baseball. He played for Simms Brush Factory, the city and a senior’s team. He also coached hockey for the Navy and Sea Cadet’s in Hamilton, Ontario. Doug was an avid reader and a lover of animals. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Doug will be lovingly remembered by his surviving family, his children: Brian (Jane) Stewart, Brad (Carol) Stewart, Lynn Hellier (Tony Dincorn) and Rodney Stewart, his 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and members of his extended family. Besides his parents, and wife Florence, Doug was predeceased by his brother Harold (Donna) Stewart and sister Florence (Gill) Splane. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) where visitation will be held on Sunday, July 23 from 2-4 and 6-8. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, July 24 at 2 PM from Brenan’s Chapel with interment to follow at Fernhill Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the SPCA-Animal Rescue or to SJRH-Palliative Care.
