Obituary of Gordon Joseph Lavigne
Mr. Gordon Joseph Lavigne passed away peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on October 12, 2017 at the age of 87 with his family by his side. He was the son of the late Walter Lavigne and Elizabeth (Pellitier). Gordon worked for J. D. Irving as a Logging Contractor from 1960-1972, then worked as an Iron Worker/Welder from 1972 until his retirement in 1995. Gordon loved the outdoors- hunting, fishing, and feeding his many raccoons, foxes, squirrels, and birds, and his loving dog, Daisey. Gordon is survived by his wife, Elizabeth May (Saunders) at Fundy Nursing Home; four step-children: Janette Lignos, Becky Cormier, Arthur Walker, and David Walker; four children from his previous marriage: Alice (Cook) Malcolm, Melvin Vienneau, Charlene Bernard (Wayne), Marlene Hanson (Lawrence); 9 sisters and brothers: Rita Thorne (Ronnie), Anita Coté (Laval), Yvonne Vienneau (Livain), May Mawhinney (James), Gerald Lavigne (Claudia), Geraldine Gendron (George), Norma Berri (Toni), Wesley Lavigne (Marilyn), and Estelle Trudeau (Daniel); many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters: Doris Laurent (Jean Paul), Eleanor Lyons (Bernard), and Blanche Lyons (Benoit). A very special thank you to Trudy Lomax, who has been his devoted friend and caregiver for many years, and Barry Gilmore and Wayne and Cathy Clark for always being there. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Brendan’s Catholic Church, Dipper Harbour, on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Remembrances to St. Brendan’s Catholic church would be appreciated by the family. Please place remembrances and condolences at www.brenansfh.com.
