Obituary of Ronald Ralph Payne
After a brief illness and surrounded by his family, Ronald Ralph Payne, the last surviving member of his immediate family passed away peacefully at his residence on September 25, 2017. Born in Saint John, NB on July 13, 1944, he was the son of the late George and Edith Payne. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his sisters, Hazel and Baby Elizabeth; brother, Carl; nephew, David Dempster and niece, Ruth Ann Dempster. Ron was formerly employed at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and at the Saint John Shipbuilding and Dry Dock. From there he went on to open up D&M Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning and operated that business for 12 years. Ron then took on a part-time cleaning contract with the Saint John Regional Library from where he retired. Ron’s greatest past-times over the years were fishing, movies (particularly wrestling), having coffee with the boys at Tim Hortons, playing cards and over the last few years going to Lorneville and listening to Reggie Gallant and his band, while taking great joy in talking with the boys. A great husband and father, Ron will surely be missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Jean; son, Mark (Jackie - #2 daughter) and daughter, Dianna; as well as several nieces and nephews. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). A time of visitation will take place from 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM on Thursday, September 28, 2017 and will be immediately followed by the funeral service at 1:00 PM, all from Brenan's Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will take place at St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of the donor’s choice.
