It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Frederick B. Spinney, who passed peacefully on Saturday, September 30, 2017. He was the only child of Everind and Lillian (Powell) Spinney. He is survived by his loving wife, Marjorie, and many relatives and friends. Some of his last words to Marjorie were "I’ll see you in heaven." He studied engineering and business at MIT, the University of New Brunswick, and the University of Colorado. At the beginning of his career he worked at ADI, Eastern Design, and did some aerial surveying for the province of New Brunswick. For most of his career, he was a Professor of Engineering at the University of New Brunswick. He began teaching at UNB Fredericton and then transferred to the Saint John campus of UNB. He was a member of Navel Architecture and Marine Engineering, the Association of Provincial Engineering, and a lifetime member of the American Society of Engineering Education. In addition to his many years of teaching, some of his interests were skiing and sailing. He kept his sailboat at the Royal Kennebecasis Yacht Club from which he and Marjorie enjoyed many summers sailing. He and Marjorie skied mainly at Crabbe Mountain before retirement and after retirement spent winters skiing in the White Mountains. Another interest of Fred’s was in the design and building of sail boats. He was an honourary member and past Honourary Commodore of the Royal Kennebecasis Yacht Club.
