Obituary of Shirley Anne Chartier
Shirley Anne Chartier passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family at Bobby’s Hospice in Saint John on October 23, 2017. Born in Cornwall Ontario, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Maureen (Keough) Jansen. She is predeceased by her husband Peter Chartier (2014). Shirley has always been a highly respected and loved member of the community of Dipper Harbour, and in recent years Grand Bay-Westfield. She was an innovator and driving force in the fishing community along the Bay of Fundy, but her biggest accomplishment has always been her loving relationships with friends and family. In particular, spending time with her Grandchildren Kirkland and Grace has always given her immense joy. Shirley has travelled extensively, visiting countless destinations to feed her passion for experiencing other cultures. Her strong faith in God has always given her inspiration, comfort and acceptance. She is survived by her son, Bryan (Ingrid) Chartier, of Toronto; daughter, Maureen (Brad) Melanson, of Grand Bay-Westfield; sister, Colleen Jansen (Elizabeth); brother, Dan Jansen (Debby); brother, Gerry (Kris) Jansen; sister, Anne (Paula) Jansen; brother, James (Amy) Jansen; grandchildren, Kirkland and Grace Melanson; also, several nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews and her beloved puppy, Merlot. A special thanks to Dr. Lisa Turner and the doctors and staff of 4CN, oncology (Dr. Groom) and radiation (Dr. Naz) at the Saint John Regional Hospital. In addition, we would like to thank the extramural nurses and the doctors, the staff and volunteers at Bobby’s Hospice for the extra special care they provided. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenan’s Funeral Home. 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506)634-7424. In keeping with Shirley’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Brendan’s Catholic Church in Dipper Harbour on Friday October 27, 2017 at 2:00pm. A private family interment will follow immediately after Mass. A celebration of life reception will be held at Brundage Point River Centre- 4 Ferry Rd, Grand Bay-Westfield, NB at 5:30 pm and all are welcome. For those who wish, remembrances in memory of Shirley can be made to the following charities in lieu of flowers: Bobby’s Hospice of Saint John, Canadian Cancer Society, or St. Brendan’s Catholic Church Society or the charity of the donor’s choice.
