I wish to express my deepest sympathy on the recent passing of Sister Isabella. I was very fortunate to have met her on two occasions. The first during a visit in Saint John with my mother Alfreda (Freda). It was a late night for both Sister Isabella and my mother as they caught up on things, enjoying each other’s company. The second time was at my cousin’s wedding in Newfoundland. My memories of Sister Isabella are one of her being very youthful, pleasant and having the ability to relate to all ages.

My sincere condolences to the Fyvie family, and the Sisters and staff of St. Vincent's on the loss of Sister Isabelle, a loving, generous and witty lady, with a marvelous sense of humour. I could fill a book with memories and stories of Sister Isabelle but will try to be brief. Sister Isabelle and I were cousins but we grew up an ocean apart, I lived in Scotland and Isabelle grew up in Canada. However, by the 1960s I was living in Newfoundland as were my sister Freda, and my brother George, with each of us married to Newfoundlanders and raising families. Although I first met Sister Isabelle in Toronto in the late 1970s, it wasn't until the 1990s when she moved to St. John that we really got to know each other. With all of us living in Atlantic Canada, visiting became easier and several of her Newfoundland relatives had the opportunity to stay with Sister Isabelle at the former St. Vincent Convent. But it wasn't until 2005 that she made it to Newfoundland to attend the wedding of my son Neil to Kathy Rose and what a great time we had. My eldest sister Cathie who lives in England was also here for the wedding and in the days leading up, to and, after the celebration, she and her four cousins had plenty of time to talk. And talk we did! Sister Isabelle, proud of her Scottish heritage and particularly proud of her large extended family wanted to hear all our stories about growing up in Aberdeen. We spent nights recalling childhood memories with her and especially tales of our grandparents. She had visited Scotland once but by then, our grandparents were deceased. It was Sister Isabelle's biggest regret, that she never did meet them. It wasn't only her cousins who enjoyed her visit, the younger generation of our family were fascinated with her stories from her teaching days and with her wit and great sense of humour. I last saw Sister Isabelle when my daughter Cathie and I travelled to St. John to help celebrate her 93rd birthday. Even at 93, she was still remarkably agile and as witty as ever.
Rest in Peace, Sister Isabelle, you lived a wonderful life.

I had the pleasure of meeting Sr. Isabelle at my bother Neil's wedding many years ago. Even though it was my first time meeting it, it seemed like I had known her all my life. She had such a calm, warm, and inviting personality with a great sense of humor.
Sr Isabelle and her family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Isabell had a cheery disposition and a love for people. And she also loved her profession of teaching and the Sisters of Charity. We were blessed with many visits by her over the years, and she treated everyone with the utmost respect and kindness. My children thought so highly of her, as we all did. She is resting in Heaven after living a life well lived.
Goodbye Isabell

Whenever I think of Sister Isabelle I smile. I first met Sister and her Brother Pat in Toronto in the early '80s. Over the years, Mom(her cousin Anne)and I had the pleasure of visiting her in St John on a number of occasions. We throughly enjoyed our visits and her stories. She was an amazing and strong woman with a keen sense of humour and a deep love of her family and her Scottish heritage. I am grateful for having the privilege of knowing her.

My family will always have the very fond memory of Sister Isabelle coming to stay at our house (with my mom, Alfreda, who is Sister Isabelle’s cousin).
My kids (now adults) still fondly mention her and how ‘cool’ they thought she was. Her kindness, humour and warmth certainly left a lasting impression.

To the SCIC COMMUNITY, I was saddened to hear that Sister Fyvie had passed, I really never had to spend time with Sister Fyvie only when I went to Evening Prayers at the Cliff Street Residence.. She was very soft spoken and I am guessing the children she taught thought the same thing.. She maybe gone but will be joining her loved ones who went before her.. Until we meet again Rest Easy ,.
