Celebration of Lisa's Life
Obituary of Lisa Caroline Khanna
It is with deep sorrow that the family of Mrs. Lisa Caroline Khanna announce her sudden passing in Aliso Viejo, California on September 17th, 2025. The loss of Lisa has left a profound hole in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who knew her.
Lisa was born in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada on February 26th, 1973. She was the beloved daughter of William (Bill) and Carol Patterson and one of six siblings, growing up in a nurturing and loving family environment. Lisa spent her early years living in Saint John and completed her high school education at Saint John High School in 1991. Briefly attending nursing school at the University of New Brunswick, she later discovered her passion for working with children. This led her to Mount St. Vincent University (MSVU) in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Child and Youth Study in 1998 and a Master of Arts in School Psychology in 2000. Throughout her academic years, she was actively involved in sports and distinguished herself as an academic all-Canadian volleyball player at MSVU.
Lisa met the love of her life, Rajesh Khanna, in high school and they started dating when they reconnected in 1995. They both lived in Halifax, Nova Scotia throughout their university years and they were married in 2001. Rajesh and Lisa moved to California where they spent most of their married life. Professionally, Lisa dedicated herself to working with children and adolescents. She served as a School Psychologist in Garden Grove, California for six years and later worked as a Behavioralist and Clinical Supervisor at Stepping Stones in Saint John for ten years, supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their families.
Lisa was known for her wonderful sense of humour, ability to strike up a conversation with anyone and having a generous heart. She loved travelling with her husband and cherished walking on the beach together while watching the sunset. Lisa cared for her precious dogs and valued time with her family, which included hosting sleepovers for nieces and nephews. She also loved visiting the fishing camp where she sunbathed on "the rock" in her youth and happily cast a long line but never baited her own hook.
Lisa’s impact was profound. She touched many lives through her compassion and empathy for those less fortunate and as an advocate for people living with mental illness. Her memory will live on in the hearts of everyone she loved. Her family will fondly remember her thoughtful cards she sent for special occasions and her unique way of singing the Happy Birthday song.
Lisa is survived by her husband, Rajesh Khanna; mother, Carol Patterson; five siblings: Leslie Patterson (Mike Hussey), Jeff Patterson (Joyce Law), Jennifer (Wayne) Chamberlain, Heather (Nick) Gresh, and Andrea Patterson (JD LeJeune); brother-in-law, Nitin Khanna (Shanna Collins); seven nieces and six nephews; and three dogs, Baily, Lily, and Molly.
She is predeceased by her father, Bill Patterson; father-in-law, Verinder Khanna; mother-in-law, Genesta Khanna and first dog, Gallo.
