Obituary of Margaret Mary Gormley
Surrounded by her loving family, Margaret M. "Mardie" Gormley, wife of the late John Gerard Gormley passed away peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Saturday, February 3, 2018. Born in Saint John NB on September 26, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Humphrey J. and Sarah F. (McLaughlin) Sheehan.
Mardie was a graduate of St Vincent's Girls High School and Saint John Vocational School. Prior to her marriage Mardie worked briefly for Wassons Pharmacy before beginning a career with John F. Flood and Sons. She was a member of the CWL, St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary, St Vincent's Alumni and the Saint John Liberal Association. She is survived by her children: Michael of Victoria BC, Kathy McCarron (Michael) of Saint John, Richard (Terry) of Saint John, and Greg (Linda) of Saint John; Her grandchildren, Martha Punales (Frank), Sara McCarron, Colleen Charlton (Clinton), Michael Gormley (Megan) and Kevin Gormley (Megan); great grand-daughters Amelia Punales and Sadie McCarron; and a great-grandson Grayson Charlton. Mardie is also survived by her brother-in-law Frank Gormley (Esther); and sisters-in-law, Claire Gormley, and Ann Marie Anderson (Ian); and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband, Mardie was pre-deceased by her brothers: John (late Dorothy Lebreton), Gerald (late Elinor Forestell) and Maurice Sheehan; and her sisters Kay Harper (late Roy) and Eileen Bardsley (late Jack).
Mardie nurtured her family throughout five generations with limitless love, encouragement and support. Her gentle spirit, infectious humour, and selfless generosity brightened all our lives and will never be forgotten.
Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424) with visitation on Thursday, February 8, 2018 from 2-8pm. Mass of Christian burial will be celebration at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 360 Dufferin Row, West Saint John on Friday February 9, 2018 12:00 pm . In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Cathedral Restoration Project or St Joseph’s Hospital Foundation. Online condolences may be placed at www.BrenansFH.com
