Obituary of Colleen Mona Foster

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Colleen Mona Foster, daughter of the late Buelah (Mott) and Robert Spellman, on Friday, February 16, 2018 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Collen leaves behind her daughters, Carla Foster of Quispamsis and Charyl (Dean) Bowman of New Jersey, grandchildren: Erin (Jason) Clayton, Virginia Clark (Brian Rich), Emily Foster (Catlin Cormier) and Nathan (Lauren) Clark and step-grandson, Jonathan Bowman; great grandchildren: Ada, James, Mia, Emma, Meah, Rowan and Nathaniel. Colleen is also survived by her brother Ronald (Lena) Spellman of Hampton, her good friend Norman Jackson, along with many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends. She was predeceased by her parents, sisters: Gloria Waddell, Georgina LeBlanc, Doris Whiteneck and Joan Cook and brother Robert Spellman Jr. Colleen was a well-known Hairdressing Instructor and up to her passing, owned and operated her own salon. She served as Department Head of the Community College Hair Dressing School for 18 years. She was particularly proud of her many students who competed successfully in hair dressing competitions with top awards. She served on the Board of the New Brunswick Hair Dressing Association – currently known as The New Brunswick Cosmetology Association. As well, she served as a Master Judge of the Canadian Judges Panel for Hair Design and a Gold Medalist and Lifetime Achievement recipient; a past-member of the Canadian Judges Panel in Hair Arts and Science. Colleen loved music and for 22 years was a co-founding member of the Friends of Music, the Armore Singers and the Sopranos. She enjoyed acting and singing in musicals with the Saint John Arts Council and was a past member of New Brunswick Opera. She was a member of St. David’s United Church and remained active in the Church Choir. She leaves many wonderful memories with family and friends of her favourite place – her cottage on the Belleisle. Arrangement have been entrusted to Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, (634-7424) where visitation will take place on Wednesday, February 21 from 2:00 until 8:00 PM. The Funeral Service will take place on Thursday, February 22 at 11:00 AM from St. David’s United Church, 7 Gondola Point Road, Rothesay. For those who wish, donations in Colleen’s memory may be made to St. David’s United Church or to the SPCA-Animal Rescue.
