Obituary of Douglas James Wright
The death of Douglas (Doug) James Wright, of Duke Street, Saint John, NB, husband of the late Erma (Hovey) Wright, occurred on Monday, October 14, 2002, at his residence. Born in Saint John, he was the son of the late Ethel Perry and step-son of Duncan J. Wright. He is survived by his sons, Harold (Cheryl) of Saint John, Willis of Moncton, Richard and Douglas both of Ontario, his daughters, Lillian (Vautour) MacLeod (Robert) and Jeri Wright both of Saint John, Darlene Argue of Plaster Rock, step-daughter, Joyce Wasend of Saskatchewan, his sister, Margaret Thorne, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Erma, a step-son, Wayne, and a daughter, Mary Ellen. Doug was employed as a pipe layer with the Water Department of the City of Saint John for many years, from where he had retired. He was previously employed with Stephens Construction Ltd. He was a Veteran of World War II, serving with the Saint John Fusiliers, and as a fireman in the Merchant Navy, having his ship, the Michael Livanos, sunk in the Indian Ocean in 1943. He served with the PPCLI during the Korean War, and remained with the Canadian Guards until his discharge in 1955. He was a member of the Jervis Bay Legion, the Merchant Mariner's Association, the City Pensioner's Association, and the Korean War Veterans Association. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (506) 634-7424, with visitation on Wednesday from 7-9 PM and Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Friday, October 18, 2002 at 2:30 PM from Brenan's Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will take place at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery on Saturday at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances to the Pediatric Department of the Saint John Regional Hospital or to the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated. A tribute to a Veteran Service will be held on Thursday at 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
