Obituary of Philip Kenneth Holland
Philip Kenneth Holland peacefully at home in Rothesay, New Brunswick, on February 9, 2003, surrounded by family and friends. He was born in Hamilton, Ontario on February 28, 1951 to Henry F. Holland and the late Margaret (Cashin) Holland. He was the husband of Mary Ann G. Holland and the father of Margaret and Catherine Holland. He grew up in Stephenville, NFLD. He attended the University of New Brunswick In Saint John and at Fredericton graduating with a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in 1972 and a Bachelor of Law (LLB) in 1975. He practiced law in Saint John, NB with the firm of Associated Attorneys from 1975 to 1977. From 1977 to 2003 he was employed with the NB Department of Justice as a Crown Prosecutor in Saint John and appeared before the New Brunswick Court of Appeal, the Court of Queen's Bench and the Provincial Court of NB. His work included prosecutions in fraud and recently a new initiative of mental health court. He had a life long interest in fishing and the ocean. In 1991 he became one of the first holders of an experimental license in Canada to fish elvers or juvenile eels. He developed a method to capture, transport, hold, market and ship this new species live to Asia for on growing in aquaculture. He was also as avid gardener. He was a member of the Crown Prosecutors Association of New Brunswick, the Canadian Bar Association, the Law Society of New Brunswick, the Saint John Law Society and the parish of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Rothesay, NB. He is survived by his wife and two daughters, all of Rothesay, NB, his father of Fredericton, NB, two sisters, Dr. Sharon Holland (Dr. Rolf Scheffler) of Belleville, Ont. and Susan (Fabian) Harmon of St. Andrews, NB, three brothers Peter (Geri) Holland of Pennfield, NB, Robert Holland of Williams Lake, BC, and Paul (Dawn) Holland of Victoria, BC, his uncle Rev. Charles Holland, SJ of St. John's, Nfld., nephew Michael (Jennifer) Holland of Lake Utopia, NB and nieces Kimberly Holland of PEI, Rowan and Katy Holland of Victoria BC, two grandnieces and several cousins. He was predeceased by his infant daughter Elizabeth and his mother. Visitation will be held at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row (634-7424), Saint John , NB, on Tuesday from 7-9 PM and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, February 13, 3003, at 11:00 AM, from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 14 Almon Lane, Rothesay, NB. www.brenansfh.com
