Obituary of Arthur James Hawkins
It is with heavy hearts the family of Arthur James Hawkins, loving husband to Joan, announce his passing on August 27, 2018 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Bethel, NB, on August 10, 1941, he was a son of the late Henry and Helen (Farrar) Hawkins.
In his earlier years, Arthur worked as a long haul truck driver. He also worked many years at Irving Paper. He had a great passion for stock car racing and was in fact a local stock car driver himself. Arthur was a self-taught furniture maker who would make unique pieces for his family. He was an avid volunteer for the Kidney Foundation. Though he fought a long, hard battle with his health, he always remained positive. Above all, he loved his family, and the times spent together.
Besides his wife, Arthur is survived by his son James Hawkins (Cathy); stepson: Michael Crowley (Sheryl); daughter: Katherine Howe (David); stepdaughters: Carolyn True (Doug), Linda Warden (the Late Tom); brothers: Victor (Violet), Frankie (Sandra); sisters: Rose McLellan, Helen Hines (Andy) and Linda Armstrong; many grandchildren, several great grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.
In addition to his parents, Arthur is predeceased by his son Baby Kevin; sister: Betty Power (the Late Tom); brothers: David Hawkins (the Late Joan) and John Hawkins (Debbie); stepson: Gary Crowley (the Late Cathy).
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). Although there will be no visitation, the family welcomes friends to a Celebration of Arthur’s Life which will be held on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at 2:00 PM from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, remembrances in Arthur’s memory may be made to Bobby’s Hospice, the Kidney Foundation of Canada (Atlantic Canada Branch), or a charity of the donor’s choice.
