Born in Woodstock, NB on June 22, 1925, he was a son of the late Hon. Hugh John Flemming and Mrs. Vera (Stithem) Flemming. Hugh was a WWII Royal Canadian Navy veteran, discharged in the summer of 1945. He had a love for learning and studying, and received a Forestry Engineering degree after the war and worked in that field until he followed the call of his faith, and became ordained as a Presbyterian minister. He later became a Professor of Classics and Ancient History at the University of New Brunswick in Saint John, from which he retired. In addition to his wife, Millicent, of 68 years, Hugh will be missed by his children: Barbara Cormier (Clarence), Hugh "Ted" Flemming (Nancy) and Peter Flemming (Lynn); his beloved grandchildren: Cynthia Cormier, Daniel Cormier (Alyssa), Jonathan Flemming (Jaime), Sarah Flemming, Heather Kelly (Craig), Jennifer Brown (Bradley), Elizabeth Flemming (Nicholas Ouellette), Catharine Simpson (Colin) and James Flemming (Kayla); great-grandchildren: Hugh and Adam Flemming, Clara, William and Emily Brown, Ethan and Madeline Simpson, Henry Flemming and Nathan Kelly; as well as all those whose lives he touched throughout his lifetime. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424) with visitation on Friday, September 7, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm.
