Obituary of Lorna Joyce Peters
Lorna (MacNabb), wife of the late Ralph Peters, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at Kennebec Manor Nursing Home. She was born on April 8, 1923 in Fredericton, NB to the late Allen G. and Bessie MacNabb. She was predeceased by her oldest son Brian (Danielle) of Mississauga, Ont. and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Lorna is survived by her daughter Linda (David Waugh) of Port Moody, BC and youngest son Dale (Lynn) of Saint John; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Throughout her life, Lorna was a dedicated member of the United Church of Canada. She spent eleven years in Central India where she raised a young family and was involved with women's issues. She returned to Canada in the 1960's and became an active member of Portland United Church where she developed many lasting friendships. She took great delight and pride in her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to read and for many years she worked at Classics, later Heritage Book Store, on King Street. She was a volunteer at the Regional Hospital where she delivered books and flowers. Lorna loved knitting sweaters, socks, mittens and baby caps. She also enjoyed cooking and her family looked forward to crowding around the table for a meal, especially one featuring her amazing Indian curries.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to all the staff of St. Joseph's Hospital Regenerative Unit, Serenity Cove Special Care Home and Kennebec Manor Nursing Home for their wonderful care, kindness and support over the past few years.
At Lorna's request there will be no visitation. A service celebrating her life will be held on Monday, September 17, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Portland United Church. Interment will be in Ocean View Memorial Gardens at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424).
For those who wish, remembrances can be made to the Mission and Service Fund of the United Church of Canada, Parkinson Canada or the charity of your choice.
