Obituary of Joy Phyllis McKenzie
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Joy Phyllis (Albert) McKenzie, wife of the late Jacob McKenzie, announces her passing, which occurred on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at Rocmaura Nursing Home. Born in Saint John, NB on March 23, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Allen and Jennie (Wolkinson) Albert.
In her early years Joy worked for Leonard’s Grocery, McAvity’s and Folley’s Pottery. In her later years she cooked at the convent for the Nuns. Two weeks each summer she cooked for the boys and girls at Brauly’s Camp. She also played Mrs. Clause for many years, and continued each year for the residents at Rocmaura. She loved going to Bangor and camping with her trailer at Keans Lake. Joy was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary Legion # 14 and 64 for many years. Last year she received her 45 year Legion Pin.
Joy is survived by her daughters: June Lane and Tanya Smith (Wilfred); daughter-in-law, Catherine Price; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren along with nieces, nephews and other members of her extended family.
In addition to her parents and husband, Joy is predeceased by her sons: Thomas and David Price; brothers: Raymond, Donald, Percy and Allen; sisters: Lillian Stein, Norma White, Stella Mapp and Gladys Mardenborough along with son-in-law, Ken Lane.
The family would like to thank the staff of Rocmaura Nursing Home for the care and support they have given our Mom during her time there, especially during this past week. We will be forever grateful.
Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, 634-7424 with visitation on Friday, October 5, 2018 from 2 pm – 8 pm.
