To the entire Bewick family: I had many occasions to play rounds of golf at the Westfield Golf Club with your Father, Grandfather or Grandfather. Getting to know him was very much a privilege as I realized very soon in our relationship what a tremendous man he truly was. The rounds of gold were great, albeit it a bit longer but it was time that I greatly enjoyed. I know he was loved by all of you and you were all loved by him. You all have my sympathies for your loss. Doug

Deep sympathies being sent to the family of John Bewick on the passing of your dad. Another one of the outstanding senior docs has passed on here in Saint John. A fantastic mentor to myself as an "Intern" in the old system. Always admired his bedside care and wise decision making as well as his being a gentleman and scholar. Impossible to replace.

I only had the pleasure of meeting John 12 years ago but what a fascinating gentleman he was. He spent much time sharing stories of salmon fishing, raising Newfoundland dogs, enjoying Peggy's delicious cooking, tales of raising a family and laughter with his children and then grandchildren. He enjoyed discussing his research in geriatric medicine, the aging process and his time in Europe studying the topic. It was easy to listen to his tails and share our knowledge back and forth. He made an impact on both my husband and I and I will forever enjoy the time we shared.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Dr. Bewick. I had the privilege of knowing and working with him during my nurses training and then in my career in Geriatric Medicine. I first met him when I was a student and he was head of the new CCU at the "Old General" at that time i was abit "scared" of him. I then connected with him when he and Dr.Rogers joined Geriatric Medicine. He was very supportive of the nursing staff and cared deeply for the elderly patients we worked with.He was also a great teacher.

He and Peggy were great friends with my father and mother - Edna and Gladwyn Small of White Head. In fact, their home in Westfield was the first place my son, Drew Simpson, every visited after his birth. I have thought of your mother and father often and the friendship they showed to my parents. I am sorry to hear of Johns passing. I have very fond memories of our family time in Westfield in the 1960's. Uncle John and Aunt Peggy were great hosts to the Griffin family. I especially enjoyed going to New River beach and having a bbq for lunch. Uncle John was a patient man but no so when he would come into the Bunkie and try to get six boys to go to sleep! He was a welcome Uncle when I used to visit Seeley street when arriving for the weekend from UNB. I still think he was a great sport lending me his car to drive to David and Cathys' wedding in Halifax. I know he missed Aunt Peggys cooking and now he is with her. Love, Steve

My condolences to the Bewick family in their loss of such a respected, kind man and passionate doctor. I started nurses training the year Dr.Bewick came back to Saint John in 1958. Then we met up again many years later after we both retired... finding we had walked many of the same steps... McGill University, Royal Victoria Hospital and SJRH. 2 days a week for many years we had great chats at the Human Performance Centre in Grand Bay-Westfield. God bless you, Dr. Bewick and may you rest in peace.

My condolence to all the family. Dr Bewick was a man of Distinction. I was privileged to meet him at the Saint John General Hospital several years ago when the CCU dept first opened. He together with Dr Tonning & Dr Rodger taught the skills RN's needed to function in that setting. He stressed the importance of continuous education...in his words "learning is never static." I value the care he gave my father over several years, allowing him to live comfortably with his heart ailment. A life well lived...Rest in Peace.

Uncle John was the most compassionate man I have ever had the good fortune to meet. When my mother, his sister in law, became ill with cancer he traveled to Montreal and his intelligence and calm demeanor was a blessing. He was a man of grace and humility and when I think of him having to deal with my father and George Griffin it is hard not to smile. I wish all the Bewick's the very best now and forever. Geoff Griffin

John and I have been friends for 70 years. So lots of wonderful memories. The friendship began because our parents were close friends. Over the years it evolved in many ways.....a patient, close social friends with john and Peggy, working with him in the geriatric unit, and the last few months visiting him in the hospital. I will miss our interesting chats. My best to David, Mary and Jim.
