Obituary of Edna Joy Conley
Any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in Mankind;
And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.
—John Donne
The family of Joy Conley (née Copp) was diminished on November 6, 2018 when its matriarch passed peacefully at Saint Joseph’s Hospital. She was the wife of the late Donald R. Conley. Joy was born in Baie Verte, NB, on March 20, 1928, a daughter of the late Mansel and Beatrice (Mills) Copp.
In addition to her role as a wife and mother, Joy excelled at creating works of art through her sewing and smocking. She was an avid Bridge player and, in her younger years, a competitive curler. Joy was also very involved with the United Church Women while living in Saint John and Dartmouth.
Joy is survived by her children: Donna Harbinson (Barry), Brian Conley (Pamella), and Janet Powroz (Norman); and by her sisters: Helen Chapman and Betty (Chalmers) Sears. Joy was predeceased by her brothers Robert and Hazen Copp. She will be lovingly remembered by her granddaughters: Sarah (Gabe) Martz, Shannon (Nick) Milutin, Sally (Colin) Flynn, Jenny Powroz (Moe Loiselle), Colleen (Jason) McQuaid, Kimberly Powroz (Yvan Goulet), and Kate (Dan) Guest; and by her great-grandchildren: Isabel, Marley, Addyson, Sawyer, Sutter, Davis, Ieyden, Zanzie, Faida, Eli, Gitel, Oliver, Lillian and Rosalie. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews and other family members.
The family wishes to express extreme gratitude to the 7th floor medical staff at Saint Joseph’s for their care and compassion shown during Joy’s stay.
Cremation has taken place. Other arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424). Visitation will take place on Sunday, November 11, 2018 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held at Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, November 12, 2018 at 2:00 PM. Interment to take place at Old Cedar Hill Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation, or a charity of the donor's choice. Online condolences may be placed at www.brenansfh.com.
