Obituary of John Edwin Long
Long, John Edwin of Long Reach, NB, passed away on November 5, 2018, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John on July 14, 1946 he was a son of the late J.J. (Jack) and Marjorie Long. He is survived by his wife Nelda (née White), also his sister, Nancy (David) McDougall; and niece Heather (Keith) Boshart, their children; and nephew, Andrew (Kate Glover) McDougall; also many cousins from both sides of the family.
John graduated from Saint John High School in 1965 and Ranger School in 1969. He retired from the City of Saint John, Engineering Dept., with 31 years of service, January 2003. He also received an Honor Certificate of Appreciation for Valued Services May 2003.
John was active in the Long Reach Volunteer Fire Department for 47 years as a fire fighter and later as District Chief. He received the Fire Services Exemplary Service Medal 2011, and the Fire Services Long Service Medal 2011. He also received the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal for service 1952-2012. The QEII Medal presented at a ceremony in 2013.
Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Friday, November 9 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. The Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, November 10, 2018 from Trinity Anglican Church, Kingston at 2:00 pm. Interment in St. James Anglican Church Cemetery, Long Reach.
