Obituary of Eric Guy Mason
We are saddened to inform you of the passing of Eric Guy Mason, October 14, 1923 - November 7, 2018. He died peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital. He was predeceased by his beloved son, Tony; his first wife, Lillian and second wife, Imelda (Taylor) Mason; as well as several family members in England. He is survived by his foster-daughter, Patty (Mason) Buchanan (David); cousin, Eric Jorden; niece, Pam (Bill) Tambie; Peter and Claudine Stanton; Janet and Malcolm Hughes; step-children, Peter Taylor (Christina) and Jennifer Taylor; grandchildren, Jeremy Mason, Samantha McLaughlin (Andrew), Maxwell Taylor (Lisa), Samuel Taylor and Adam Taylor and great-grandchildren, Asher McLaughlin and Daniel Taylor.
Eric was born in Birmingham, England. He served six years in the Second World War, in the English Army as a decorated Warrant Officer with a Commander of the Dominion distinction. Eric served 14 years in the Canadian Army Reserves and was a very proud member of the Jervis Bay Royal Canadian Legion.
After the war he came to Canada and worked as a Precision Indentured Compositor for the Telegraph Journal, while also being a very active entrepreneur, owning a Motel and a Corner Store and renovating and selling real estate. Eric lived a very full life and traveled extensively with close friends and family. He was an avid reader and loved history. Eric’s sharp sense of humour and sparkling charisma will be dearly missed as we remember him looking ever-dapper in his suit jacket and tie.
A special thanks to Doctor Winston Lee and the staff at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Reverend David Barrett and Shirley Johnston for their care. Very special thanks to Don and Margaret Willar for their care and support and for being outstanding friends to the end. Eric and his family were fortunate to have you in their lives.
Eric had a lifelong compassion and interest in helping people and pets in need. Should you wish to make a donation, please direct it to Bobby's Hospice or the Saint John SPCA Animal Rescue.
A funeral service will be held at Brenan’s Funeral Home,111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) on November 18 at 2:30 PM.
