Obituary of Ralph Francis Shanahan
The death of Ralph Shanahan occurred on Friday, November 9, 2018 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Chatham, NB on July 7, 1957, he was the son of the late Robert "Bert" and Mary (MacDonald) Shanahan of St. Margarets, NB.
Ralph is survived by one brother, Robert of Hamilton, ON and one sister, Marjorie (Doug) Young and two nephews: Joel and Evan (Kristina), all of Saint John. Besides his parents, Ralph was predeceased by his partner Judy in 2007.
Ralph attended school in the Miramichi area. In the early 70’s he joined the North Shore Regiment (2RNBR). He trained with the Regiment and various others under MMC. He also trained with the 2nd Commando Group, Canadian Airborne Regiment, CFB Griesbach, Alberta and in GFB Gagetown on the 106th Anti-Tank.
Following an accident, Ralph went on to work in the auto trade in the late 70’s. He attended NBCC Bathurst (MVR) and moved to Saint John to work for Goodyear. Later, Ralph worked for Lawson Motors, Centennial Pontiac Buick GMC, Parkway Ford and Joyce's Ultramar. He was also a member of the Corps of Commissionairs.
Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) where visitation will take place on Monday, November 12, 2018 from 4-7 PM. A Funeral Liturgy will take place on Tuesday, November 13 at 2 PM from Brenan’s Chapel with interment to follow at Fernhill Cemetery.
For those who wish, remembrances may be made to a charity of donor’s choice.
