Obituary of Aldo Bruno Praeg

The death of Aldo Bruno Praeg of Rothesay, NB occurred on December 7, 2018. He was born in Zurich, Switzerland on May 14, 1932. He immigrated to Canada in July 1953 in order to improve his English, and for the next number of years worked in the construction industry all over British Columbia. Aldo was often fond of saying: "I was always in the right place at the right time". In 1960 he was asked by his employer, Associate Electrical Industries, to move to Ontario and supervise the erection and installation of large steam turbines at Lakeview Generating Station in Mississauga. Two years later he was instrumental in forming PFP Installations Ltd., after being awarded the erection of the #2 Unit at the NBEPC Courtney Bay Generating Station for Brown Bovary Canada Ltd. While supervising this erection he saw an opportunity for a company like PFP in New Brunswick and the Maritimes. As company President, he decided to relocate the Company Head Office to Saint John, NB. He was a former member and Past President of the Saint John Construction Association, and Trustee of the Industrial Relations Fund, as well as the NB Millwrights Trust and Pension Fund. He was also a Past President of the Saint John Executives’ Association. He was a 50-year member and Past Master of Albion Lodge No. 1 and a Scottish Rite Mason, as well as a member of Luxor Shriners and Past Director of the Royal Order of Jesters, Court No. 149. Aldo was predeceased by his parents, Louis and Maria (Piazza) Praeg, sister, Irene Hofer; aunts and uncles, all in Switzerland, and his wife of 40 years, Irene (Goetz) Praeg. He is survived by his partner, Barbara Joan Davis; daughter, Lorraine Turner (Ken Burk), of Vancouver, BC; sons: Daniel, of Brazil; Trieste of Italy and Allen, of Ottawa, ON; grandchildren: Robert, Sofia, Maddy of Hampton, NB along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. A heartfelt thank you to all the staff at Extra Mural for their support these past months. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). As per Aldo’s request there will be no formal funeral or visitation at the funeral home. A celebration of Aldo’s life will be held on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Shadow Lawn Inn, 3180 Rothesay Road, Rothesay, NB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Luxor Shriners Transportation Fund or a charity of the Donor’s Choice. Online condolences may be placed at www.BrenansFH.com.
