Obituary of C. Marie MacKeigan
On December 19th, 2018, Marie’s earthly journey ended peacefully with family members at her side when her precious Heavenly Father took her to her eternal home. Marie will be missed dearly, but her family and friends take comfort knowing that she is in heaven with her Lord and Saviour and they will get to see her again.
Marie was the beloved daughter of Allan and Helen MacKeigan of Marion Bridge, Cape Breton, NS. She was predeceased by her parents, and her younger brother, Hector. Marie was a loving and devoted sister to Allana (Jerry) Horsman of Quispamsis, NB; Anne MacDonald of Stratford, PEI; and Kenneth (Marilyn) MacKeigan of St. Andrews, NB. Marie was so proud of her family that she was often heard bragging about them. Her nieces and nephews, Vicki & Jason Bettle, Joni & Drew Mersereau, Sheri & Matt Taylor, Shawn & Melanie Horsman, and Kristin MacDonald (Fiancé Richard Lambie) all looked forward to laughing and talking with Aunt Marie. Her great nieces and great nephews: Emily, Janelle and Juliana Bettle; Eliava, Isaiah and Carissa Mersereau; Clara and Kate Taylor; and Gabriella, Judah, Caleb and Micah Horsman, always brought a smile to her face. Playing games, blowing bubbles and hugging were some of Marie’s favorite things to do with her family and she was always looking forward to the next party. Julie Sentner was Marie’s "adopted" sister and she always looked forward to their many treasured visits. Her many friends at Hillcrest Village, in Saint John, and around the world, were also an important and cherished part of Marie’s life.
Marie graduated from Riverview High, Coxheath, NS in 1970 and then trained to become a nurse and midwife. Her nursing career took her to Windsor and Sydney, NS. She also studied at Atlantic Baptist College in preparation for her 20 year long career as a medical missionary in her beloved Pakistan. She retired in Sydney, NS and then moved to Saint John, NB in 2011 to be closer to family.
Marie was so appreciative to have such a knowledgeable and caring medical team. The wonderful care and love that she received will always be deeply appreciated by her family. Being surrounded by love and compassion was an amazing gift.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB E2K 3H6 (506)634-7424.
A Service of Celebration of Marie’s life will be held on Sunday, December 23rd, 2018 at 2:30pm in the Recreation Room in Comeau at Hillcrest Village, Saint John, NB. A graveside service will be held at Riverview Cemetery, Marion Bridge, NS, at a later date.
Donations in Marie’s honor may be made to the New Brunswick Extra-Mural Program, Bobby’s Hospice, or a preferred charity. Online condolences may be placed through our website www.brenansfh.com
