Obituary of Grace Marguerite Easton
In her 84th year, Grace Easton passed away on June 3, 2017 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. She was a quiet, shy woman who dedicated her life to the love and care of her family and home. Grace is survived by her daughter, Keltsie Gaudet and son-in-law, John Gaudet with whom she resided in Saint John, NB; her brother, David Stevens (Sadie Stevens) of Moonstone, ON; as well as the absolute joy in life - her grandchildren, Lindsay Gaudet Warkentin (Michael Warkentin) of Toronto, ON and Cory Gaudet (Kristin Cumming) of Thunder Bay, ON; as well as her great-grandson, Zachary Warkentin of Toronto, ON. She was predeceased by her husband, William Easton; mother, Zilpah Stevens and father, Harold Stevens along with several other relatives. Grace grew up on Sandy Point Road in Saint John, NB. As a young woman she attended Saint John Vocational School studying Home Economics and preparing to be a teacher. After graduation she accepted a teaching position at the one room school in Wirral, NB where she met her husband, Bill. She settled there for many years as a devoted wife, homemaker and mother. In 1982, Grace along with her husband and mother returned to Saint John. Living first on Beaverbrook Avenue in the north end then moving into a granny home built just for her in Lakewood Heights where she lived until her death. Grace was an accomplished seamstress, delicious baker and was known for her desire to have everything "just so"! Grace always had warm cookies or snacks along with a comforting shoulder ready for her grandchildren throughout their growing years. She kept the home fires burning making it easy for Keltsie and John to work knowing she would always be there. In addition to the loving care she gave her family, Grace volunteered at the Lakewood Heights Elementary School and at the Saint John Regional Hospital during her senior years. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Tuesday, June 6th from 5pm to 7pm. It is with great sadness that her small family will gather together to celebrate her life Wednesday, June 7th at 2pm at Brenan’s Chapel with a reception immediately following. Interment will take place in South Oromocto Lake Cemetery after the reception. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to South Oromocto Lake Cemetery, NB Heart Centre c/o the SJRH Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice.
