Obituary of Lawrence Walter Foley

It with with heavy hearts the family of Lawrence Walter Foley announce his passing on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at the Saint John Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit. Born in Saint John on December 7, 1950, he was a son of the late Lambert H. and Yvonne Mary (Bastarache) Foley. Lawrence was a graduate of Brockton High School, MA. He pursued an award-winning career in hair styling at Jordan Marsh in Boston, where he was approached by Mr. Vidal Sassoon himself to work in his London, England and Cairo, Egypt locations. In the 1980s Lawrence moved closer to family in Saint John and worked at Royal Hair Design, then opened his own shop "Hair It Is" on Union Street, until brain cancer forced him into retirement. After defeating brain cancer, Lawrence still loved to visit friends, sister Trish and other family members in Massachusetts. He had a passion for architecture and loved uptown living in his several tastefully decorated apartments. He was a fashionable dresser with a love for style and design. When he visited his sister and cousins in Massachusetts, their houses would be styled in his eclectic taste before he left. He loved family dinners at his mother Yvonne’s house where he would plot to sneak an extra dessert home. Lawrence had a playful nature and a great sense of humor. Lawrence was a spiritual person, and wanted everyone to love one another with no exclusions. He will be missed. A special thanks to Greg Hebert at Centennial Special Care Home, Dr. Linda Stephenson, staff of the Palliative Care and Neuro Units of the Saint John Regional Hospital. Lawrence is survived by his brothers: Osmond (Connie), Gerard (Mary), Gary and Marc (Tricia); brother-in-law Andrew Orfanos, sister-in-law Rose Marie Foley, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings: Patricia Orfanos, Paul and David. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424). In keeping with Lawrence’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service. For those who wish, remembrances in memory of Lawrence may be made to Romero House, Bobby’s Hospice, Palliative Care Unit at Saint John Regional Hospital or a charity of the donor’s choice.
