Obituary of G. Douglas Henderson
It is with great sorrow we announce the peaceful death of Doug Henderson, 88, of Millidgeville on Tuesday, February 12, 2019. Doug was the son of Fred and Hazel Henderson and brother of Gerald of Fairvale, NB. Affectionately known as the "Candy Man" as he worked for William Neilsons/Cadbury for close to 40 years.
Doug was always one to stay busy and worked installing "Life Line" up until 87 years old. Doug, an active member and Chaplin of the United Commercial Travelers and volunteered most recently at Shannex where he lived for the last two years, and Meals on Wheels for many years.
He was happily married for 50 of their 63 years together to Isabel (just kidding). He is also survived by children: Scott Henderson (Edmonton), Dr. David Henderson (Truro), Dr. JoAnne Henderson (Saint John) (Optometrist, so kind of a doctor) and his pride and joy Carolyn Henderson (Vancouver) and seven grandchildren: Mackenzie Henderson (Edmonton), Ian, Claire, Brian and Stella Henderson (Truro), Max and Marie Legere (Rothesay). There are no other children that he admitted to. He was fortunate to make many wonderful friends over the years and none more special than his "super" neighbour Al Roberts who has been a great support and friend.
Doug was blessed with a great sense of humour and hopefully would smile reading this tribute. He will be missed.
Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) where visitation will take place on Friday, February 15 from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM. The Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, February 16 at 2:00 PM from St. Luke’s Anglican Church, 369 Main Street.
For those who wish, remembrances may be made to Bobby’s Hospice, Meals on Wheels or to the Saint John Regional Hospital-Cardiac Unit.
