Obituary of Shirley Mae Rinehart

The family of Shirley Rinehart is heartbroken to announce her unexpected passing February 12, 2019 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Shirley was born in Narrows, Queen’s County, NB and was the daughter of the late Charles and Ethel Parlee. Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 56 years Robert (Bob) Rinehart of Saint John, daughter Shelley (Richard Lee) of Saint John and son Scott of Saint John. She was pre-deceased by her only sister Marie Parlee. Shirley was a graduate of Saint John High School (1956) and the Radiological Technology program at the Saint John General Hospital with certification in both clinical and diagnostic radiology. She began her career at the Saint John General Hospital before leaving to raise her children whom she was devoted to and immensely proud of. She later returned to work part time at St. Joseph’s Hospital before leaving to open her Market Research Company, S&R Opinion Research, which she ran until the time of her death. Shirley was a good friend to many, loving country music, good conversation and a cup of hot tea. She was an avid Sea Dog fan cheering loudly for the players who billeted with her daughter and a ready volunteer, supporting her son in his volunteer work. She and her husband loved drives in their convertible, dinners with family, social events with friends and roses – he grew them, she enjoyed them. The family wishes to thank Dr. Julie Hildebrand, Dr. Patrick Omatoso, Dr. James Mowatt and Dr. Walter Smolinski for their compassion and excellent medical care. They also want to recognize the special people that provided care, support and friendship over the past few months; Kim, Carrie, Lynn, Scarlet and Colleen. Thank you to the nurses and staff of 3CN, 5C, 4CN and Extra Mural, especially Leanna, for their positive outlook and care. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visitation on Sunday from 6-8 pm and Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. The Funeral Service will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at 2:00 pm. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
