Obituary of Mary Veronica Fitzherbert
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Mary "Veronica" (Curtis) Fitzherbert of Saint John announces her passing on Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at Tucker Hall (Shannex) Nursing Home in Saint John.
Born in Halcomb, NB, on September 25, 1933, she was the eldest child of the late Mary Elizabeth (Dennis) Curtis and William Albert Curtis. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her son Jerome (just one month ago), brothers; Patrick and William Jr., several aunts and uncles, daughter-in-law, Carol Fitzherbert, brothers-in-law, Allison "Bud" Donovan, Lyman Hayes and sister-in-law Joan Curtis.
Veronica is survived by her loving daughter, Colleen Donahue (Burton) of Saint John, her son Tony Fitzherbert (Tracy) of Rusagonis, her five granddaughters; Tara (Kyle), Meaghan (Justin), Kelly (Erik), Mallory, and Shawna. She loved all of her grandchildren and is survived by her beautiful great grandchildren; Livia, Laina, Slater, Maverick, and Ryleigh. Veronica is also survived by her sisters; Blanche Donovan, and Bernice Hayes; Aunt Vera Hamilton (Blake), as well as many nieces and nephews and cousins.
Mom grew up on the northwest Miramichi in the little village of Sevogle, NB. She attended school in Sevogle and Sunny Corner and subsequently the NB Teachers’ College. She taught in small country schools until her move to Saint John, where she raised her family. Although she lived in Saint John her entire adult life, her heart was still in the Miramichi.
A special thank you to all of the staff at both the Saint John (Tucker Hall) and Quispamsis (Embassy Hall) Shannex nursing homes. Their care of Mom and our family was beyond compare especially in the past few days.
Mom lived a long and sometimes difficult life but the past few years she was happier than ever and is now at peace. Mom loved to sing and this was enjoyed by the staff and residents of her home as well as by her family. Rest easy Mom and sing as loud as you can with the angels!
Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Friday from 6-8 PM and Saturday from 10-12 PM. The funeral service will be held at Brenan’s Chapel on Saturday, February 23, 2019, at 12:00 PM. Interment to take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society, the Salvation Army or to a charity close to your heart.
