Obituary of Margaret Jean Francis
The death of Margaret Jean (Palmer) Francis, beloved wife of 57 years to the late Philip S. Francis, occurred peacefully on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Quispamsis Shannex Embassy Hall. Born on November 27, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Roger and Edna (Wills) Palmer. Margaret had a banking career with Montreal Trust, followed by a sales career with Sears Canada. She was community minded, including volunteering with the St. Paul’s Altar Guild, Friends of Hospice, the Alzheimer’s Society of NB and Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed cooking and gardening, and spending summers at the cottage with her children and grandchildren. Margaret is survived by her children: Ross Francis (Dorothy) of Ottawa, Susan Higson (Robert) of Moncton and David Francis (Kimberley) of Quispamsis; sisters: Marion Hykle of Pointe Claire and Barbara Terris of Moncton; grandchildren: Christopher Francis, Patrick Francis, Michael Francis, Ashley Higson and Scott Higson; step grandchildren: Jessica Matush and Jason Middleton; step great granddaughter, Arya Chase; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Margaret was predeceased by her brother Robert Palmer. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424). A funeral service will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at 12:00 PM. A private interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of NB or a charity of the donor’s choice.
