Obituary of Elsie Gertrude Elder
The death of Miss Elsie G. Elder age 93, of 221 Ellerdale St., Saint John, NB, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Thursday, September 11, 2003. Born in Olinville, Queens County, NB, she was the daughter of the late David and Amelia (Belyea) Elder. Elsie was an active member for many years of Portland United Church and belonged to the Ada Myles Chapter of the UCW. She had two jobs in her life the second of which lasted 53 years before she retired in the early 1980's from New System Laundry. Her many interests in life included sewing, crocheting and cards but her longtime furry companions were equally as important to her. She is predeceased by her brother Carman and her furry pals: Peter, Honey and Fluffy. Elsie will be missed dearly by her sister, Lois Forrest, Saint John, NB, nephew, Dean Forrest, Halifax, NS, nieces, Ellen (Phil) Flemming, Plaster Rock, NB, Glenna Forrest, Saint John, NB, Lynne (Jim Scott) Forrest, Edmonton, AB, uncle, Dan (Dodie) Belyea, Brown's Flat, NB and several great-nieces and nephews. Following cremation at Brenans Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (506-634-7424), a memorial service will be held from Portland United Church, Millidge Ave at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, September 15, 2003 with interment to follow at Lyon's Cemetery, Armstrong's Corner, NB. At Elsie's request, there will be no visiting at the funeral home. Remembrances may be made to the Benevolent Fund of Portland United Church, Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of the donors' choice.
