Obituary of Benjamin David Wade
Benjamin David Wade passed away April 15th 2019 at the Loch Lomond Village. He had recently celebrated his 90th birthday with family. Ben was born February 17, 1929 to Ralph and Laura (Cornish) Wade in Edmundston, NB and was the oldest of nine children.
He completed school in Edmundston and then graduated from Fredericton High School. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. He played rugby at Fredericton High School and later played senior rugby and soccer in Fredericton and Saint John. In later years his passion turned to sailing and he sailed and raced competitively at the RKYC and Martinon Yacht Clubs. He held office in the Saint John and Fredericton Junior Board of Trade and later in the St. Stephen Milltown Board of Trade. He was past president of the Fredericton Lions Club and also served in the St. Stephen Rotary Club and Kennebecasis Lions Club. In his youth, he was an officer in the 12th Field Regiment R.C.A. He retired from NBTeI after 35.5 years of service and then tried his hand at farming and computer software development while living in Nova Scotia for several years before returning to Grand Bay-Westfield where he lived until 2006 before moving to the Village.
He is survived by his wife, Ann M. (Poole - Hutchings) Wade; his daughter Patricia (David) Parks of Pond Inlet, Nunavut; sons David (Nichola) Wade, Victoria, BC and Peter (Mette Breum) Wade of Denmark; step-children Sandra Blagden (Frank Hamm) and Paul (Crystal) Hutchings both of Saint John, NB, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brother Basil Wade and sisters Doris Wade of London, Ontario and Linda Dingley of Fredericton.
He was predeceased by his mother and father, sister Lillian and brothers Robert, Cecil, Dwaine "Buddy", James and Ralph Jr.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424). At his request, there is no visitation.
