Obituary of Mabel Agnes Gates
It is with Sadness that the family of Mabel Agnes (Whitaker) Gates announces her passing, which occurred on Friday, May 3, 2019 at the Loch Lomond Villa. Born in 1914, she was the daughter of the late George and Mary (Keaton) Whitaker, wife of the late Allen Gates.
Mabel lived a long and happy life. In her younger years she was an active member in All Saints Anglican Church in east Saint John. Mabel sold her hand knitted mittens, hats, and socks at the Pioneer Christmas Sale at Brunswick Square for many years until her 100th birthday.
Mabel is survived by her daughter June Klausen, son-in-law Klaus Klausen of Quispamsis; two granddaughters Jill Klausen of Toronto and Kim Klausen of Ottawa; sister Gerty Lubawski of Toronto; several nieces and nephews; special nieces Rita Johnson of Quispamsis and Alice Ross of Dartmouth. She was predeceased by nine siblings.
The family would like to thank the staff in Birch House for the wonderful care they gave Mabel during the past five years.
Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, N.B. (634-7424). A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at Brenan’s Funeral Home at 10:00 AM.
