I am sad to see that Al has died. I feel like I saw him out and about not too long ago and he looked ok. Certainly he had a big smile and a tease for me :)
I first knew Al through my work at Lantic Sugar as a summer student in 1976-1980. Al seemed to take on the teasing of the students as part of his job! It was worse for me at first because my Dad was one of the Big Bosses. I think my first year I was Pool Gang and Al was back elevator operator. After that he was in the Riggers and I was Bolier House then Riggers. So we worked closely together. Same locker room , breaks and lunch together. The teasing mostly stopped when he saw I could work as hard as he did , until my last day ,which was the Friday before I got married. You can imagine the teasing that day OMG!
After I came back to town we had some professional relationships and the teasing went both ways. I truly enjoyed and respected Alphonse. I am better for having known him. Heaven is a better place and Saint John poorer.
I cannot be with you tomorrow and I am very sorry. Laid up with a bum leg. I extend a big hug to all family and we non family who also loved Al.
With greatest respect
Dr Jim Stephenson

Sincere condolences to all family members.
Uncle Alphonse was a very warm and caring man.
I remember when I was a kid, every year he would come for a visit, he would always tease us and make us laugh. He had a good sense of humour and a great smile!
Rest In Peace mon oncle! (Uncle)
