After graduating from Saint John High School, where she played violin in the orchestra and was an enthusiastic badminton player, she studied business at Mount Allison University in Sackville, N.B. Upon her graduation, she used her business skills in her father's architectural firm.
In 1946, she married Jack Myles. Over the next four years they lived in Winnipeg while Jack attended university. Ann worked at T. Eatons, continued her music studies and participated in competitive badminton. In 1950, she and Jack moved back to Saint John where they started their family.

Her sister Jean pre-deceased her.
