Obituary of Madison Reinhold Krumrei

It is with broken hearts that the family of Madison Reinhold Krumrei announces his passing on January 22, 2020 at Bobby’s Hospice surrounded by his loved ones. Born in Parrsboro, NS, on February 5, 1946, he was the son of the late William and Isabelle (Anderson) Krumrei.

Madison spent his life working around ships – he worked for Marine Atlantic as a ship’s carpenter and finished his career as a quartermaster for Bay Ferries on board the Princess of Acadia. His years on the water garnered him many good stories to tell his family. One such story took place during “down time”. Workers were slamming doors and being a nuisance. Madison was known for pranking people, and well.. he fixed them! He put grease on the door handles, ensuring he would get his rest – and a laugh!

Madison was a family man through and through. Every weekend, he would be with his family sitting in the living room watching pay-per-view wrestling on TV. He had a nickname for all of his grandchildren too. No matter where you were, if you were trying to find him, all you needed to do was listen for his whistling. He loved camping in Parrsboro during the summers and also had a ton of hobbies that included hunting, fishing, line dancing and bowling. Madison loved music, be it playing the guitar or listening to it – especially old country.

Madison loved sports and was a huge Toronto Maple Leafs fan. So much so that once he caught his grandson wearing a Canadian’s hat, and he pitched that hat right under the car! One of his favourite daytime activities was going to the mall to give all the ladies “a treat”. He thought he was the biggest ladies man, or as he called himself, Mr. Parrsboro.

He was caring beyond words. It did not matter if he had just finished a 7 day stretch at work, if you had a “fix-it” problem you needed help with, he was the man you called – or at least the man his wife volunteered! On the boat they had renamed the carpenter’s shop Matt’s Locker. No matter what it was, he could do it. He was also willing to try anything, almost fearlessly! Unless it came to spiders… The man was terrified of spiders. One time, one of his granddaughters told him she tought she had seen a spider in his car. Well, he believed her. He went out and got bottles and bottles of Spider Bomb, parked his car, bombed it, and left it sitting for a week.

There was never a memory of Madison where he had a frown, showed anger, or anything other than open arms and a smile. He made his family laugh daily and with him around, you couldn’t feel safer and more loved.

Madison will be missed by his two daughters: Gina (Robert) Morin, and Terrylynn (Kevin) Leblanc; sisters: Dora, Carrie, and Rose; brothers: Ray and Wallace; grandchildren: Corrina (Shawn), Laura Jean, Jacob and Kyle AKA Bart (Nicole); great grandchildren: Cole, Braden, Lauren, William, and Kevin who is on the way; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Madison was predeceased by his faithful wife Shirley Jean “Jeannie” (Freake) Krumrei; sisters Elthea, Jean and Joyce; brothers: Keith, Bill, and Charlie; as well as his best friend and beloved dog Willy.

Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424) there will be a visitation on Friday, January 24, 2020 from 2 – 4 PM and 6 – 8 PM. A funeral service will take place in the Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel on January 25, 2020 at 2:00 PM. Interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery on Monday, January 27, 2020 at 3:30PM.
