Obituary of Alfred Ernest Martin

It is with saddened hearts that the family of Alfred “Al” Martin, beloved husband of Margo (Leavitt) Martin, announces his passing. Al had suffered with lung cancer and COPD which led to his death that occurred on Monday, March 9, 2020 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John on September 21, 1947, he was a son of the late Alfred and Vivian (Lee) Martin.

Al was a dedicated husband first and foremost. He treasured and loved his children, even the ones he didn’t get to see as often and embraced every moment he could with his grandbabies. He loved his role as Grampie. Al was a dedicated father to his son Matthew, never missing a hockey game or practice. He was a hard-working family man who devoted most of his life to his trucking career, also being an owner/operator with Brunswick Bulk and Seaboard, where he made life-long friends.

After Al’s retirement he enjoyed going to Tim Horton’s having coffee with his friends. He also loved driving his motor bike with his buddies and his son Lance. He loved his whole family, and  left school as a young boy to go to work to help his mother and younger siblings. Al always enjoyed working outside whether it was in the yard fixing something or building bird feeders .He had a very special friend base, they loved his humor and witty way. He will be missed by many.

In addition to his loving wife, Margo, Al will be missed by his children: Cindy Meijering (Cecil), Lance Martin (Patty), Bonnie King (Danny), Matthew Martin (Rachel) and his step-daughter Nicole Beaulieu (Alex); his precious grandchildren: Hilary, Maria, Chloe, Nick (Taylor), Colton (Amber), Bradley (Ciarra), Alysha, Tyler and Cecil; step-grandchildren, Natasha and Nathan; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Dominic and Alisha; his younger siblings, Linda (Greg), Kenneth, Joanne (Wayne), Patsy, Debbie (Jose), David (Angie) and Steven; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his parents, Al was predeceased by a son, Tony.

Al’s family wishes to extent their heartfelt appreciation to all of the staff and volunteers from the SJRH Palliative care unit, as well as to all those who visited, offered prayers, phone calls, sent flowers, brought scallops because Al was craving them, and made his favourite candy – “crack”.

Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424) with visitation on Thursday, March 12, 2020 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 13, 2020 at 11:00 am from Trinity Church, 3949 Route 845, Kingston. Interment will take place in the church cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the SPCA – Animal Rescue, Saint John Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit or the Children’s Wish Foundation.
