Obituary of Mareen Heather Porter
With heavy hearts, the family of Mareen H. “Tudy” (Parks), wife of the late John D. Porter (Sr.), announce her passing on Friday, March 13, 2020 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, with her family at her side. Born September 2, 1941 in Saint John, she was the daughter of the late Alva and Gladys (Lobb) Parks.
Mareen was a college-educated cook, and her family and friends directly benefitted from her passion to fill tummies and hearts, especially her grandchildren. She ran her own take-out for a time, and was an avid BINGO player.
Mareen will be missed by her daughters, Karen Yates (Paul) and Krista Bussey (Albert); step-son, John Porter Jr. (Margaret); grandchildren: Julie, Chantel, Ian, John, and Jason; sister, Jean (Donald); brother, Reuel; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband, Mareen was predeceased by her sisters: Lois, Shirley, and Alva; brothers: Gregory, Richard, and Donald; and her granddaughters who passed away at birth: Kimberley, Stephanie, and Belinda.
Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 from 12 to 2 pm, at which time the funeral service will begin in Brenan’s Chapel. For those who wish, remembrances to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Please place online condolences and remembrances at www.BrenansFH.com.
