On behalf of myself and my husband, we would like to express our condolences to Richard's family and to let you know you are in our thoughts and prayers. Before I retired in May 2019, Richard would come into our offices at Argus Audiology to go over the preparation of our yearly calendars. He was a kind, personable gentleman and it was always a pleasure to see him coming in. I was so surprised to read of his passing. May God bless you today and in the days and months to following.

My sincere condolences to Richard's immediate family & extended family & friends on the sudden passing of your beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother ... many with whom I am not acquainted. I am so sorry for your sad loss. Upon my family's move to Cambridge in October 1952, we McLeans were next door neighbours to the Hatt family & have fond memories of Avery, Jennie & the boys still at home. Arthur was living in NY & Carrie mostly away from home by then. Richard was older than me & my younger siblings, but while he was in high school & most of us in the nearby elementary, we walked to & from school together, Richard always polite & mannerly & in Winter, offering to carry our books. My deep sympathy Robert & David on the loss of your brother. You are in my thoughts & prayers. Madeline (McLean) Sleep.

Sincere Condolences to the Hatt Family, I spent many wonderful years working with Richard at yellow pages. He was a great mentor and had a joie de vivre attitude which most would envy. Rick had an angle and an answer for any situation usually resulting in winners all around..soo many fond memories that will be cherished

My deepest condolences to you Frances and your family. Richard will be missed. He was a great man. He mentored me in Toastmasters and he became a good friend. I’ll always treasure going to your house to practice my speeches, and the many times I spent having tea/coffee with him at the mall while watching people go by. His laughter and jokes are missed. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Sometimes your family isn’t related by blood.
I’ve known “Uncle” Richard and “Aunt” Frances from the time I was four years old, and it was not unusual for me to wake up in their house. I stayed with them after having my tonsils out in grade one, lived with them for a couple of months in grade two, and then for nearly two years in my early twenties. I deeply regret not trying harder to stay in touch after they moved to Riverview.
I have so many memories of Richard. He was a kind and generous man. Our last one-on-one conversation was when he was driving me to the church to meet my imminent husband at the end of the aisle. There was a fair bit of family strife happening, and I was stressed.
“We’re going to drive around for a bit,” Richard said. “You are going to enjoy being chauffeured for a bit. And you are not going to let them ruin this day for you and Doug. This day is about you, not about them.”
Godspeed, Uncle Richard. Frances, Karen, and Krista, I am holding you all close in my heart.
With much love and gratitude,
Little Karen / KJ
