Nola Gillen

Obituary of Nola Gillen

The family of Nola Bernice Gillen, wife of the late Harry Gillen, announces her peaceful passing on January 25, 2021. Born on July 17, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Ida and Sylvester (Atkinson) Dalton.

In her early married years, Nola worked as a clerk for NBTel, a short but enjoyable career for 15 years before deciding to stay at home as a homemaker where she enjoyed baking, sewing, knitting and spending time with her parents. Nola especially enjoyed taking care of her Father, Sylvester, up until his passing at the age of 102.

Nola was an avid bridge player and loved to gather with her special friends to play. She also enjoyed her many years playing Rummoli with the Girls in the ‘Stork Club’ who had been playing together since they were in their 20’s. Nola and her husband Harry spent many happy summers at their cottage at Sandy Point and then at their trailer at Harding’s Point. After the death of her husband, Harry, Nola moved her trailer to Whitehead on the Kingston Peninsula where she enjoyed many summer weekends with family and friends.

Nola was always a happy person who found great joy in doing a little teasing and being teased right back. She smiled often and loved to spend time with her family on Holidays and special occasions.

Nola is survived by her sister-in-law and long-time friend since they were 5 years old, Mary Gillen. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and her husband.

Special thanks to the Staff of Rocmaura, especially on Garden Court, for the great care and friendship you gave to Nola.
