Obituary of Ruth Hughes
It is with sadness the family of Ruth Eleanor Hughes, widow of the late Murray T. Hughes announces her death which occurred on February 2, 2021 at the Saint John Regional Hospital.
Ruth was born on March 27, 1923 the daughter of James Frederick Pye and Annie Josephine Connell. She was the last remaining member of her immediate family having been predeceased by her parents and her siblings: John “Jack”, Veronica “Vera”, Edward “Teddie”, Gerald “Jeddie”, Helen, Monica, Bernard and Arthur.
In addition to her parents and siblings she was predeceased by her husband, Murray (2000) and her youngest son, Paul (2009).
Ruth is survived by her children, Richard (Karen) Hughes; Joanne (Paul) O’Connor; daughter-in-law, Martha Hughes; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren: Eleanor (Danny) Crowley and their children Alyssa (Anthony) Pascon, Olivia and Noah Crowley; Colleen O’Connor (David Pye); Laurier (Kristine) Hughes and their children Aidan and Sarah Hughes; Stephanie Hughes (Preston Sarazin) and their children Arwen and another precious great grandchild due in late spring; Dr. Erin O’Connor (Dr. Ben Kenney) and their children Rory and Maeve Kenney; Andrew Hughes and Jennifer (David) Phillips and their daughter Lily.
Ruth is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Irene Pye, Shirley Bosence and Marion Williams, several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.
In her younger years Ruth worked at F.W. Woodworth’s and at Sears (Canada).
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). Due to Covid-19 restrictions the service will be private. Interment at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. A memorial service, when we all can gather, will be held on a future date. For those who wish, the family would appreciate remembrances be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation, Bobby’s Hospice, IWK or a charity of your choice.
At this time Ruth’s family would like to express their appreciation to all the staff and other residents for their love and support of our Mum during her stay at Shannex – Howe Hall during the last three years and to Dr. Sean J. Keyes for his support over many years.
