Obituary of George Joseph Carvell
It is with appreciation for a life well lived that the family announces the peaceful passing of George Carvell, beloved husband of 38 years to the late Doris (Buckingham) Carvell, on April 29, 2021 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John on August 16, 1930, he was the son of the late Frederick and Veronica (Cusack) Carvell.
A lifelong resident of Saint John’s South End, George could be seen taking his walks all around the uptown area – come rain or shine. He was self-employed as a bookkeeper for several local business and restaurants during most of his career. George spent many years living at the Admiral Beatty where he had many friends over the years. He was an avid reader, loved listening to the CBC, playing cards, and cheering on some of his favourite sports teams: the Detroit Tigers and NY Rangers. George’s faith was important to him and he was a faithful parishioner of St. John the Baptist and the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Above all else, George was a family man. He loved his family and he and Doris would plan big trips for them to take every summer.
George is survived by his sons: Paul (Peggy) Carvell and Patrick (Karen) Carvell; daughter: Theresa Carvell-Jones; grandchildren: Edward (Craig) Carvell, Raymond Carvell, Peter Carvell, Bridget Jones, and Christopher Jones; great-grandchildren: Alison Jones and Luke Jones; brother and sister-in-law: John and Evelyn Buckingham; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and his wife Doris, George was predeceased by his son-in-law: Troy Jones; sister-in-law: Joan Whalen; and siblings: Hamel Carvell, Florence Jenkins, Mary Bates, Frank Carvell, Kay McCarthy, Betty Douglas, and Doreen Holt. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
George’s family would like to extend a sincerely heartfelt thank you to the staff of Chateau de Champlain, Dr. Dolan, Dr. Bewick, Dr. Foster, and the staff of 3BN at the SJRH for their excellent care and kindness.
