Obituary of Robert "Bob" Fairweather
It is with sadness the family of Robert William Fairweather announce his peaceful passing at Bobby’s Hospice on Sunday, May 2, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Saint John on March 10, 1940, he was the son of the late William (Bill) and Muriel (Lamb) Fairweather.
Bob will be dearly missed by his wife of almost 60 years, Penny-Lynn; sons, Brent (Donna) and Bradley (Angie); grandchildren: Andrew (Jessica), Danielle and Madison; great-grandchildren: Ian, Isabelle, Cedric, Maddox and Bradley.
After serving with the R.C.A.F. he returned to Saint John and began working at Rothesay Paper (Irving Paper), where he retired from in 1999. His commitment to the community and its youth was reflected through many years, coaching local minor hockey in Saint John as well as Little League Baseball, and was well known as “Coach Bob”. He was proud to be a member of, and to volunteer with, the North End Lions, North End Food Bank, ICYM, Centennial School Lunch Program and the Meals on Wheels program for 15 years.
Hockey was always a favourite pastime, having been a life-long Montreal Canadiens fan and season ticket holder for the Saint John Flames and Saint John Sea Dogs. He enjoyed walking the fairways with his buddies, playing golf at Rockwood and his regular visits with the “morning coffee club” at Tim Hortons Millidgeville.
The family would like to extend a sincerely heartfelt thank you to the staff at Bobby’s Hospice, Extra-Mural Saint John, and special thanks to Dr. R. Thompson for his excellent care, as well as Dr. S Gray and the radiation oncology department at the SJRH for their compassionate and kind care over the past 16 months.
Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). Honouring Bob’s wishes, there will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations made in Bob’s memory to Bobby’s Hospice, the RiverCross Mission or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Online remembrances and condolences may be placed at www.BrenansFH.com.
