Obituary of Shirley Butler
It is with heavy hearts the family of Shirley Catherine Butler announces her passing, which occurred on Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John, NB, she was a daughter of the late Harold and Evelyn (George) Tolan.
Shirley had a beautiful smile and a generous spirit that will be missed by many. She had such a profound impact on so many, her gentle nature and fun-loving character spread joy to all who knew her. Shirley now goes to rejoin her husband Ray Joseph Butler, three of her sisters, “The Ducks” Rita, Liz, and Barb, as well as the Bridge Club.
Shirley is survived by her daughters Deb Grass (Fred) and Jen Butler (Christian); son Steve (Rose); sister Eb; grandchildren Amanda (Illya), Jordan, and Brendan; great-grandchildren Parker, Carsten, Declan, and Kendall; special friends Sally, Erve, and Otis; as well as the extended Butler family and many nieces and nephews.
Aside from her parents, Shirley is predeceased by her husband, Ray Joseph Butler, and sisters Rita, Elizabeth, and Barbara.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of the Saint John Regional Hospital Emergency Department, 5CN, and to Dr. Chris O’Brien for their exceptional care.
Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424) with visitation on Sunday, May 16, 2021, from 2:00 – 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 17, 2021, at Holy Redeemer Parish (St. Pius X) at 11:00 AM. For those not in attendance, the funeral mass will be livestreamed. For those who wish, donations in Shirley’s memory may be made to Bobby’s Hospice.
