Obituary of Sister Elizabeth Joan Williams
Sister Elizabeth Joan Williams (Sister Mary Ervin) peacefully went home to her God on Sunday, June 20, 2021, at Ruth Ross Residence in Saint John, NB. Born October 1, 1935, in Saint John, she was the daughter of the late Ervin and Mary Edna (Dever) Williams. Sister Betty was a graduate of St. Vincent’s Girls High School and entered the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception on August 6, 1954.
She received her Teacher’s Licence from the Province of New Brunswick and spent many years in Education ministry in British Columbia (Vancouver), New Brunswick (Saint John, St. Stephen and Moncton), as well as Nova Scotia (Digby). Other ministries included Ward Clerk and Admitting at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Senior care at the Mater Misericordia Home and Spiritual and Religious Care at Rocmaura Nursing Home and Ruth Ross Residence.
Sister Betty’s caring ways were evident when she was with children and seniors. She had a gift for making them feel welcomed and affirmed. Her love for God’s creation, especially animals, was well known by all who met her.
Sister Betty was predeceased by her parents, Ervin and Edna; her sisters, Barbara (Cullinan) and Sister Marion, scic; as well as her brothers, David and Ervin.
She is survived by her sisters, Janice (Murnaghan) and Lucille (DeWolfe).
A Graveside Service will take place on Thursday, June 24, 2021, at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Saint John. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424).
