Sorry to hear about my ol' buddy (Jungle) Jim's passing.... :-)
My "history" with Jim goes back to the early 1960's when we were both students at Vancouver west side Sir Winston Churchill High School, and also both junior members at Marine Drive Golf Club.
Our friendship really blossomed when Jim (then in 1st year UBC) was tutoring me in Gr 12 high school physics...
...and yikes, the dude was REALLY smart!
During my UBC years in Faculty of Science/Pharmacy, & while Jim was in Faculty of Engineering; we did more than a few fun fun fun road trips in his original lil teenie tiny British Motor Corp "MINI"
Bellingham, Seattle, Long Beach, & Tofino were some of our destinations.
I always kept in touch with Jim & Jean as the years went by, and it was always a treat to catch up via phone & annual Christmas card exchanges.
Jim was always and forever the eternal optimist.
The (June 2002) photos attached were taken at The Old Spaghetti Factory in Vancouver's historic Gastown, when Jim and Jean made a trek to the west coast.
Jim & I certainly had some awesome times in our younger years. You will be missed!
Sending lotsa love from overseas Qualicum Beach, Vancouver Island paradise!

Jean, Chris and family, I want to share a memory, which may seem like a detail, but it had quite an impact on me at the time. Many years ago when Jim and Jean were living in Montreal, I housesat for a couple of weeks their apartment in NDG--and, I think, cat-sat. Jim was back and forth a couple of times to get some things while I was there. At the time, I was reading self-help books. I can't remember the one I was reading that Jim happened to notice on the coffee table, but it had something to do with learning to love yourself, or something of that sort. I remember him looking at that book and then looking at me quizzically. He then smiled and remarked words to the effect that I was already plenty lovable and I didn't need a book to tell me so! It was so off the cuff and sweet and it has always stayed with me.

Rest in peace Jim. As my high school friend in Vancouver, you were the one who always pushed me academically, but I could never quite keep up with you! We lost touch when you moved back east years ago and regrettably, you never made that west coast fishing trip we had talked about, but my next catch will be for you. Tight lines my friend.
