Obituary of Dorothy Irene McEwen
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Dorothy I. McEwen announces her passing which occurred on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at Turnbull Nursing Home. Born in Sussex, NB on September 12, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Lemuel and Annie (Gould) Ashe.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Debbie Caissie, Nancy Hubley (Earl), Wanda Sabean (Gary), Shelly Martin (Andrew); son-in-law, Freeman Cameron; sister, Jane Ashe (Bunny); brother-in-law, Murton Chown; 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; special niece, Sandra MacNeill; cherished cat, Luke; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Erskine McEwen; daughters, Betty Cameron, Marion McEwen, Joan Greenslade; granddaughter, Staylina Parlee; grandson, Freeman Cameron JR and Bruce Greenslade; sisters, Anne Ashe, Mary Chown, Emma Brhum; son-in-laws, Donald Caissie and George Greenslade; best friend, Eva Rector and Gert Foote.
The family wish to extend their deepest heartfelt gratitude to Dorothy’s family at The Turnbull Nursing Home for their exemplary care, love and compassion she received while living there. Special thank you to Lynn McPhee, Lynn’s adored Labrador retriever “Reede”, daily visits brought mom great joy. Thank you to Rev. David Barrett, your visits, friendship and guidance meant so much to mom.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424). A graveside service will take place on Saturday, October 2, 2021, at 11:00 AM in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. Donations in memory of Dorothy may be made to The SPCA of Saint John, Kidney Foundation of Canada, Children’s Wish Foundation, and The Canadian Cancer Society.
