It was with great sorrow that I learned of Jan's death. She was a great friend and a very distant relative as my father's mother was a LeBlanc.
If the angel Gabriel sits at the right hand of God, the angel needs to know that Jan is in heaven and might be God's next main angel! Not only did Jan inspire people to become involved, but also her dynamic personality helped raise millions of dollars to help the hospital.
She volunteered not only with the Saint John Regional Hospital Auxiliary but also the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation. The Auxiliary cook book benefitted from her dietary background and became a treasure in many kitchens throughout Canada and the United States. Whenever I open my cookbook, I think of Jan and all the good times. Also under her leadership, the Hospital Gift shop became the "go to place" not only for candy but also for gifts. Jan was also a driving force in the Auxiliary's yearly Christmas Auxiliary Gift Sale; thousand of hours donated by hundreds of Auxiliary members created beautiful treasures.
When I was the senior staff person at the Hospital Foundation, I always knew I could count on Jan being a tremendous help. The event we created together was the Teddy Bear Fair. We took a concept from a Toronto Hospital and developed an activity where children with their parents brought a stuffed toy the hospital for treatment . Sicknesses ranged from a broken leg, a fall or just "sick." Doctors, nurses, technicians and other hospital staff donated their time on a Saturday morning each year to welcome over 5,000 children and parents. After every event, parents and nurses told us that children actually looked forward to coming to the hospital with their stuffed animals. I received phone calls from mothers who told me they had tried years to bring their child to the hospital for treatment but could only come as far as the parking lot before the child was too afraid. After coming to the Fair, their child came willingly to the hospital, bringing their stuff animals with them, and told all the staff about the fair! Jan's help contributed to making the event a success.
Jan and many Auxiliary friends and hospital volunteers also helped with the Festival of Trees, Hospital 24 Hour Relay ( later to become the 12 hour relay), and other events raising over $18,000,000.00 in less than 15 years.
On a personal note, my family and I are so appreciative of Jan and Tony hosting our daughter's wedding rehearsal dinner at their home off the Kennebecasis River. It is a treasured moment recalled these many years later where we now live in Charlotte, North Carolina.
RIP, Jan.

Tony, Paulette and Preston,
I am sorry for your loss. I wish you comfort at this difficult time.
I would like to share how Jan first charmed me. When I did an internship at the Saint John hospital, Tony and Jan graciously opened their home to me-a slightly familiar friend of their son-in-law. As I rushed out the door for my first day of interning, Jan handed me a brown bag lunch she had prepared. It was completely unexpected (and, of course, it was elaborate and delicious). I remember, as I drove to the hospital, feeling like I was part of the family. What a lovely host and person.
My condolences,
Lyndon Campbell

Dear Tony, Paulette, Preston, and family,
Remembering Jan makes us think of all the wonderful summers we shared at Browns Flat. Jan was a warm and generous person, who cared for her neighbours -- our (grand)parents -- like family, and the feeling was mutual. We loved the occasional cruise up-river, canapes on the deck, and other get-togethers. Perhaps best of all was time shared with Jan by the swimming pool, enjoying the weather, chatting about family and friends.
Our condolences for your great loss.
Love,
Soozie, David, Beth, Aaron & Barry

Dear Tony
We were so sorry to hear of Jan's death. For many years I worked with her on committees and projects at the Regional and St. Joe's and she would always be the first to offer her help, her expertise and I never remember her saying she didn't have time. She just pitched in and got things done. And done to the highest standard!
Of course one of our fondest memories was the trip down the Bay to Dipper Harbour on your Ark to spread my parents' ashes. . That became a very special event for us and you and Jan made it a true celebration of life and an adventure too.
Take care Tony.
Our condolences and our love,
Judi and Jerry

Dear Tony, Preston and Paulette.
I was stunned to hear of Jan's passing. It doesn't seem possible that she is gone. I have amazing memories of working with her, side by side at the hospital. She preceded me as President of the Saint John Regional Hospital Auxiliary and was a sensational role model. We worked together on Festival of Trees and had a wonderful laugh when she gave the decorating of the Auxiliary Tree to three of us who had never done one before and we learned after putting on all of the ornaments with precision, that you always put the lights on first! We laughed about that for a long time. The cookbook went on vacation with her and she tested every single recipe. She was relentless in her desire to have it be perfect. She succeeded in a huge way.
We enjoyed spending time in Browns Flat and on the river, times we will never forget.
The Auxiliary of our time is no more, but because of Jan, the financial groundwork was laid for it to function autonomously as it does today. Making it a business instead of a cookie can corp, resulted in funding of many hospital needs.
She was an amazing friend and nothing was ever too much trouble for her. We would speak on the phone after we moved, but the spirit was still there. Please know that we are thinking about all of you and your family. She will hold pride of place in the hearts of many. Teri and Ellis Levine

All of my love goes out to Aunt Janice’s family and friends…she will be sorely missed. She was a Grande Dame…kind and loving…reliable, trustworthy and honest…a mover and a shaker…big on family and her community…a stalwart friend to my Mother…all whilst looking fabulous and cooking up a storm!!! She was always good to me. She was an inspiration to me and I loved her. She and Uncle Tony were also my sponsors at my confirmation. I will miss her. She always seemed to me to be holding up the world with one hand…a strong human being with a humongous heart! So, farewell but never goodbye. She will be forever in our hearts and minds…Elizabeth Uy
