Obituary of Garda Elizabeth Bishop
It is with great sadness that the family of Garda Elizabeth (Parsons) Bishop announces her passing which occurred on Sunday, February 6, 2022, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Alma, NB on February 6, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Avery and Annie (Smith) Parsons.
Garda graduated from Saint John High School, class of 1950 and from Modern Business College in 1952. She then went on to work at the Provincial Lab and St. Joseph’s Hospital.
After retirement, Garda became a long-time resident of Brentwood Tower in Milledgeville before moving to Shannex, Parkland in 2019.
Garda leaves behind her beloved daughter, Susan Bishop; cherished niece, Evelyn Sheffar; special great-niece, Alyson Sheffar, along with other nieces and nephews; her well loved long-time friends, Nancy Lee and Gerry Brown, Krista Doucette, Onorio Rossetto. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband, Donald Murray Bishop, and her sisters, Jean Sheffar (Harold) and Beverly Anne Betts (Lloyd).
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Emily Love and the staff of the Palliative Care Unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital for their exceptional, compassionate care.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (634-7424). A visitation will be held on Friday, February 11, 2022, beginning at 1:00 PM with interment to follow in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery, officiated by Father Douglas McNeill. Due to Covid-19 health measures placed on indoor gatherings by the Government of New Brunswick, all those 12 and older attending the visitation and service will be required to show proof of vaccination and a piece of government-issued ID or proof of medical exemption. Donations in memory of Garda may be made to the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation – Palliative Care Unit, Cathedral Restoration Fund, and to the SPCA of Saint John.
