Obituary of Mary Louise Northrup (Wiggins)

It is with sad hearts that the family of Mary Lou Northrup announces her peaceful passing at home on February 27, 2022. Born in Saint John on July 14, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Muriel Wiggins both of Saint John.

Known for her outgoing personality, quick wit and easy laugh, Mary Lou lived a full and very active life.  A graduate of Simonds High School,  she worked as a bookkeeper as a young women while living in Forest Hills, East Saint John then moving to Coles Island in the 70’s where she thoroughly enjoyed country life and on to Quispamsis in October 2003.  Together with her husband Clinton she loved music, dancing, kitchen parties and socials with square dancing being a big part of their lives for decades.  Together they enjoyed 21 years of winters in Florida.  She enjoyed cooking and together they prepared their own special brand of jams, jellies, pickles and preserves annually.  She was extremely creative, loved decorating and was an excellent seamstress, happily taking on one project after another.  Mary Lou was a fun-loving member of Red Hatters Dazzling Dames for many years.  She loved special occasions, entertaining, and everyone knew they could drop into the house at any time and always be welcomed and treated to her homemade sweets.  She had a great love of animals; especially toy Pomeranians, leaving behind who she fondly referred to as a sweet little girl named Viola.

Mary Lou is survived by her husband Clinton Northrup Quispamsis; step children Curtis (Debbie) Northrup-Halifax, Murray (Bonnie) Northrup-Rothesay, Claudia (Glen) Dale-Queenstown, Cynthia (Scott) Christie-Codys, Lee (Serena) Northrup-Edmonton Alberta, 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, brother: Douglas (Carol) Wiggins-Rothesay; special niece: Katherine Wiggins (Douglas) Bacon-Rothesay; as well as several nieces and nephews, special friends Stewart and Raylene Rogers-Rothesay and June Willband-Quispamsis along with many more.

Besides her parents, Mary Lou was predeceased by her first husband Sheldon Barkhouse, brother Thomas (Alice) Wiggins-Rothesay, and sister Rita (Fredrick) Hale-Rothesay.

Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424).  On what would have been her 87th birthday a Reception and Celebration of Mary Lou’s Life will take place on July 14, 2022, at 2PM in the Brenan’s Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest in Coles Island Cemetery.
