Obituary of Theresa Mary Sudsbear
It is with great sadness that the family of Theresa Mary Sudsbear, wife of the late Peter Raymond Sudsbear, announce her passing, which occurred on Friday, April 1, 2022, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born June 29, 1932, in Saint John, Mom was the daughter of the late William and Bridget Isabelle (Walton) Stack.
Theresa grew up in the North End of Saint John, graduating from Saint Vincent’s High School. Mom worked for NB Tel for many years and then as a Resident Attendant at Carleton Kirk Nursing Home, until her retirement at the early age of 80.
Theresa was a devout Catholic. Mom married Peter Raymond Sudsbear in 1955 at St. Bridget’s Chapel, in Chapel Grove, and they spent 50 beautiful years together. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
Mom was a loving mother, grandmother of 15, great grandmother to 26, and great-great grandmother to one.
Theresa’s passion was being an active Mom and raising her children, and later in her life, being involved with her extended family in various provinces. Theresa was quite proud of her bowling and was a member of St. Peter’s Bowling League, along with two other leagues. Mom was a regular card player and always enjoyed a good “Card Party”. She hosted many family gatherings at her home and always enjoyed a “sweet” with her meals.
Theresa and Peter were inseparable, traveling from Pembroke to Germany and then back to Saint John. She also liked to help out at the Peninsula Legion Branch #62.
Theresa is survived by her children: Bridget Anne (Michael) Hornyak, of Saint John, NB, Mary Ellen (Elias) White, of Castor, AB, Peter Thomas (Sharon) Sudsbear of Edmonton, AB, and Shane Anthony (Pam) Sudsbear of Wetaskiwin, AB. Theresa is survived by her brother Joseph Stack and her sister-in-law Ramona Stack.
Besides her parents and loving husband, Theresa was predeceased by her brothers, Gerald Stack and William/Buster Stack; and her daughter, Dorothy Sudsbear.
Mom is also lovingly remembered by her niece, Hilda Foster; and friend, Frances Scallan.
Theresa is resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Monday April 11th, from 4 pm to 8 pm, beginning with a Legion Ladies Auxiliary tribute service at 4 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated from St. Pius X Church/Holy Redeemer Parish, 316 Somerset St. Saint John, NB. on Tuesday April 12, at 11 a.m. The family requests all those attending the visitation and/or funeral service to wear a mask. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery with a reception to follow at Chateau Saint John, 369 Rockland Road, Saint John.
