I had the privilege of working with Mike for 16 years in a large general insurance agency. Mike was always "on", and the words "slow down"were never used. He only knew how to give his all to whatever he was doing.
However, family and friends always came first, and his love of family was unbounded.
He was probably one of the kindest and most generous persons I have ever known.
I would express my deepest condolences to the family on the passing of a remarkable man, and a man that I sincerely admired.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Brown family. Mike was a generous and faithful friend of St. Joseph's Hospital. His contribution to health care in our community made an immeasurable impact on the patients we serve. We have fond memories of Mike and always looked forward to his visits to the Foundation office. Attached is a photo of Mike and Sr. Charlotte in the early days of Play Ball for St. Josephs.

Most sincere condolences to the entire Brown family. So many fond memories from the Higgins Haberdashers vs. the Hash Browns for Play Ball for St. Joe's to many weekend golf games with Dad (Bob), Uncle Len and Mr. Brown. Little did I know I was primarily invited as the go-to fourth for years in order to avoid the indignity of strangers joining the foursome!
Mr. Brown would announce himself during each visit to our home beginning with the length of anticipated stay ("I'm here for two minutes!") and would always leave with the requisite "God is good!"
Quite possibly the kindest man I ever knew.

Sincere condolences to the Brown family. Mike was a great friend to my Dad, Len Higgins and I always enjoyed our chats when the opportunity arose. Truly a scholar and a gentleman. I'm sure he'll be in good company and tee'd up with the 7 am group as soon as he gets settled.
Thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

I was saddened to hear of Uncle Mike’s passing. He was a kind and gentle soul. I had the pleasure of sharing a couple of meals with him and it was a beautiful experience. He was always so interested in what was going on in our lives. He was by our side, for his brother Jackie’s final days and at the funeral home as well. He shared stories of when he and my Dad were children and was very proud to say what a great big brother Jackie was. He told us that my Dad was a great ball player and as a little boy he would go watch him play. He always had the best stories. What a truly wonderful man your Dad was. I pray that all your great memories will help to console you in the days ahead. When you were blessed to be in his presence, you always left a better person. Uncle Mike’s Catholic faith was very strong and he always gave a blessing to all who were present.
I want to express my deepest sympathy to my cousins and their families especially to Raymond, Carol Ann, David, Cathy, Peter, Honey, Tricia and Christopher on how much we both care as you all grieve the loss of your Dad. We wish we could be there with you all but we will connect via livestream.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, And let perpetual light shine upon him. May the soul of Uncle Mike and all the souls of the faithful departed through the Mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

We all loved and honoured Uncle Mike for his goodness, and enjoyed him for his sense of humour and wonderful conversation, snatches of song and poetry and his tag line: Keep the faith. He has had a special place in my heart not just as Dad's twin but in his own right all my life, but even more so in recent years when we would talk a lot about happy times past. He spoke of his days traveling as a young insurance agent, or sports, or his outings (when he could still drive) and the people he missed, Aunt Mary and Dad especially. I visited with him and Mary every Wednesday evening one year during college, after a class at Beaverbrook House. Wonderful chats. I remember a very special lunch with Uncle Mike at the golf club during which he pumped me with questions about Hamlet before his UNBSJ English exam soon to come! And generously offered me a SECOND lobster roll (politely declined). The twin brothers were at once so different and so alike, with echoes of each other's phrasing and voices demonstrating the unmistakable bond that lasted from earliest days, through the time in the orphanage together, to trips to the Nature Park, to the very end. He was wonderful with his brother in Dad's last months in the nursing home. Well, of course, how could he be otherwise? Mike was just wonderful. His example has brought a lot of peace and joy to me, and I am sure to others. I am glad for every minute I got to spend in his company. To my dear cousins, I grieve for your loss and offer my deepest sympathies. Your father had a beautiful life, well-lived. We will always miss him.

To all the Brown family,
Your parent's goodness was known and appreciated by all of us from the CYO gang. The Brown house was always open to any one or group of us. Whether playing records in the front room, or hoops in the backyard, Mike and Mary provided a safe and absolutely fantastic environment for all the friends of their children. We felt like we really were a part of the family, whether on Coburg St, or at the camp in Millidgeville. Mike embodied what giving back is supposed to mean, with his day to day interaction with people, and the litany of organizations he contributed to. Your Obituary did indeed capture the essence of the wonderful man that we knew growing up. While his loss saddens us at this time, having had known him for most of my life makes me proud.
heartfelt condolences, Paul & Sue Shonaman

On behalf of Margaret McGarrity’s family, I send our sincere condolences to Mike’s immediate family. Marg had a very special bond with her older brother, Mike. Their conversations were always filled with laughter as they reminisced about their childhood excursions or their common love of sports. Our last visit with Marg to Mike’s home was one I will never forget. We had such an amazing time meeting our cousins and enjoying the warm hospitality of our Maritime family.
Mike immediately earned our great respect and admiration. His love of religion, politics, and sports made him a very engaging conversationalist. He was consistently up to date on current events and he was a thoughtful, generous host who was always fully engaged with his guests. Mike embraced us as part of his family and for that we will always be grateful.
Mike beamed with pride when he spoke about his children and grandchildren. He was so appreciative for their tremendous support, the daily meals and the regular visits were a blessing that enabled him to stay at his home his entire life. Truly, his children reflect the love and lifelong commitment of Mike and Mary.
Mike, we have been blessed to have known you. As your beautiful obituary reads, we are confident that you are resting in peace. May God hold you in the palm of His hand. ❤️

Mike was one of those very special and rare people you meet in life who was always honest in his opinions and always committed to his family and our community. I was proud to be honoured by his loyalty and friendship and extend my deepest condolences and sympathies to his family. Mike was a great New Brunswicker who had a wonderful sense of humour combined with a deep belief in the importance of volunteerism for the benefit of Saint John and Canada. RIP

Ray, Lorraine and Brown family,
We are so sorry for your loss. I first met your Dad in the 70’s when managing the Credit Bureau. He would bring the insurance renewal to the office each year and then the knights of Columbus. Mike was such an honourable man. His word was solid.
Please know you are all in our thoughts and prayers at this most difficult time.

So sorry to hear of Mr. Brown's passing. Mr. Brown was my first employer when I went into the Insurance business. He bought an agency in Hampton where I worked answering the phone , I knew nothing about insurance, a client cames in one day and Mr. Brown maybe not knowing I only answered phones said I would look after them. I was nervous but, must have done ok because he sent me to Memramcook to get my license which gave me 37 years of steady work and I met some great people.
Sorry for you loss, I will say a prayer for you all.

Mr. M. R. Brown has been a part of the Hanlon Family as long as I can remember (& longer). He and his wisdom will be sorely missed by all of us. Dad often refers to the book Mike gave him many years ago (The Prophet by Kahil Gibran). I've heard Dad so often quote it that I gave my eldest son a copy a few Christmas's ago when his first child was born. I hope that some of Mike's perspective will be adopted by my sons. This picture is one of many of Mike in our family albums: it was taken on his visit to us when we first moved from Saint John to Cooksville, Ontario (now Mississauga) around 1965. God bless the Brown Family and may Mike requiescat in pace.
